Rewind

It is April 27, 2010 and it snowed all morning. We've also had several days this month with temperatures in the 70s -- it even touched 80 degrees one day, the pond reached 65 degrees, and the kids went swimming. But today it is snowing, in a demonstration of why April is the cruelest month.

In commemoration of the last snow of Spring and anticipation of the warmth to come, here are a couple of photos of Winter pond activities. These represent an almost daily after-school occurrence -- cleaning off a light covering of snow, followed by skating or sledding. Thanks to an early stretch of cold weather, the ice was thick enough to support us well before Christmas.

  1. We are installing an inground pool in the very near future. Our first decision is to go with a fiberglass pool or a gunite pool? Advice from all you pool owners would be greatly appreciated. If you have had both types, please indicate in your reply. Thanks!
